NYC Liquid Ecstasy Criminal Lawyers

Liquid ecstasy, also known as GHB, is a drug commonly found in the party scene in New York and across the country. It comes in the form of a clear liquid, but it can sometimes be found in capsules or powder form. It has a strong sedative effect, producing feelings of euphoria, relaxation, sleepiness and passivity.

GHB is sometimes referred to as a “date rape drug”. Since its liquid form has no flavor or odor, it can be added to an unsuspecting person’s drink. The victim becomes sluggish, confused and vulnerable to sexual assault. Overdoses can lead to coma or even death.

Liquid Ecstasy Under New York Law

Since the drug is so dangerous and has the potential to be used for harm, the state of New York has made it a priority to get it off the streets. This means they’ll be coming down hard on anyone charged with a GHB-related crime.

There are two main types of charges involving liquid ecstasy:

1. Possession

Possessing even a small amount of the drug is a class A misdemeanor with a punishment of up to a year in jail. If you’re caught with more than 28 grams, you’ll be facing felony charges and up to seven years in prison. Amounts higher than 200 grams can result in sentences up to 25 years.

2. Sale

You could face up to seven years in prison for selling, trying to sell or preparing to sell even a small amount of liquid ecstasy. However, it’s important to note that “selling” involves more than distributing the drug in exchange for money. Under New York law, giving the drug away for free or even tossing it away in a trash can is considered “selling”.
