Child Sex Crimes Are Serious

For reasons that are easy to understand, some of the most sensitive sex offense cases are those involving children, like sex trafficking of children. Pursuant to federal law, alleged sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion is categorized in the same group as child sex trafficking, and an individual who is facing accusations for any of these offenses would be looking at the same serious potential repercussions. If you or someone you love one has been accused of a federal sex trafficking crime of any kind, it is critical that you start working with a skilled federal sex crimes defense lawyer as quickly as possible. An experienced trial defender can begin delivering an effective legal strategy and case guidance from the start and continuously as you proceed through the many complex phases of a federal sex crime matter.

Sex Trafficking Children Laws in the United States: Trafficking by Force, Fraud, or Coercion

Pursuant to federal legislation, sex trafficking of children or by force, fraud, or coercion is a serious felony offense that can end up in fines, prison time, sex offender registration, and other severe penalties. If you have wrongfully been convicted of sex trafficking, you might lose your freedom for the rest of your life.

According to Section 1591 of the U.S. Code, it is against the law to recruit, entice, harbor, transport, provide, obtain, advertise, maintain, patronize, or solicit a person in affecting interstate of foreign commerce, or within the special jurisdiction of the United States. It is also against the law to profit from someone else performing these actions. For the purpose of being charged with the enhanced penalties under this section as opposed to other trafficking offenses, you must have utilized force, threats, fraud, or coercion, or have been involved in an offense with an alleged victim younger than the age of 18.

What this means is if you are accused of being at all involved in a sex trafficking offense, you can face the same serious penalties as the perpetrator. Even if you know you are innocent, it is critical that you take these charges very seriously and get in touch with a skilled defense lawyer as soon as possible. We know what it takes to win and will do everything we can to protect you.

Criminal Consequences for Sex Trafficking Children or by Force/Fraud/Coercion

If you get convicted of sex trafficking pursuant to this section of the law, you could be looking at serious penalties. If the alleged victim is younger than 14 years old, you could face up to life behind bars, with a minimum of 15 years. If the victim is younger than 18, you could be sentenced to 10 years to life behind bars. Interfering with the enforcement of these laws can get you up to 20 years behind bars. On top of that, fines, sex offender registration, and other repercussions are always in the mix when it comes to federal sex crime offenses.
