THE BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR.

The BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR!!! Todd changed our lives! He’s not JUST a lawyer representing us for a case. Todd and his office have become Family. When we entered his office in August of 2022, we entered with such anxiety, uncertainty, and so much stress. Honestly we were very lost. My husband and I felt alone. How could a lawyer who didn’t know us, know our family, know our background represents us, When this could change our lives for the next 5-7years that my husband was facing in Federal jail. By the time our free consultation was over with Todd, we left his office at ease. All our questions were answered and we had a sense of relief.

Surviving an FTC Interview: Preparation Tips

Getting ready for an interview with the Federal Trade Commission can seem intimidating. However, going in prepared can help you feel confident and give thoughtful, relevant answers. Here are some tips on how to get ready for your FTC interview.

Research the FTC

Make sure you have a solid understanding of what the FTC does and what they stand for. Look over their mission and history on the FTC website. Know the laws that the FTC enforces, like the Federal Trade Commission Act which prohibits unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices. Read up on recent FTC cases to get a sense of the issues they deal with, such as privacy, data security, mergers and acquisitions, etc.

Understand the Role

Carefully review the job description and responsibilities for the specific role you’re applying for. Think about how your skills and experience align with what they’re looking for. Be prepared to give specific examples of projects and accomplishments that make you qualified.

Research the Interviewer(s)

If possible, find out who will be interviewing you. Look them up on LinkedIn or the FTC website to understand their role and background. See if you have any shared connections or past employers in common. This can help you find talking points to establish rapport.

Practice Answering Questions

Come up with thoughtful answers to common FTC interview questions ahead of time. Prepare stories and examples that highlight your qualifications without rambling. Rehearse out loud to get comfortable explaining your experience. Some questions to practice may include:

  • Why are you interested in working for the FTC?
  • How would you handle a complex case with ambiguous facts?
  • Describe a time you faced a conflict and how you resolved it.
  • What experience do you have with litigation, investigations, etc?

Review Your Resume

Refresh your memory on all the details of your resume and be ready to expand on any part of it. Assume they will ask you to tell them more about each job, achievement, education credential, etc.

Prepare Questions to Ask

Having smart questions to ask the interviewer demonstrates your interest and curiosity. Tailor your questions to the role and ask about things like day-to-day responsibilities, challenges of the job, office culture, etc. Some good questions to consider:

  • How would you describe the culture and work environment here?
  • What are the most important skills for someone to succeed in this role?
  • What do you enjoy most about working for the FTC?
  • How is success measured for this position?

Dress Professionally

Make sure your interview outfit is appropriate and polished. For an FTC interview, formal business attire is best. For men, wear a tailored suit, dress shirt and tie. For women, a business suit or dress with blazer is recommended. Avoid loud colors or distracting accessories. Look neat and professional.

Arrive Early

Give yourself extra time to arrive 10-15 minutes early. Confirm the interview location ahead of time and be sure you can get there on time. Rushing in late can get the interview off to a stressful start. Arriving a bit early lets you gather your thoughts and complete any needed paperwork before the interview begins.

Bring Extra Copies of Your Resume

Have clean, updated copies of your resume printed on quality paper. Bring at least 2-3 copies in a folder or padfolio to hand to each interviewer. This gives them something to reference and take notes on during the interview.

Turn Off Your Phone

Make sure your cell phone is silenced and put away during the interview. You don’t want any disruptive notifications or calls during the conversation. Let the interviewer have your undivided attention.

Make Eye Contact and Sit Up Straight

Practice good posture and maintain eye contact with the interviewer as you speak. This conveys confidence and professionalism. Don’t slouch or fidget, even if you feel nervous. Sit still and look interested.

Be Concise Yet Detailed

The key is to provide just enough detail in your responses without rambling on too long. Prepare clear, concise examples and stories to illustrate your qualifications without excessive wordiness. Be thorough but don’t overdo it.

Ask Clarifying Questions if Needed

If the interviewer asks you something you don’t quite understand, don’t be afraid to ask a clarifying question. Something like “Could you explain more about what you mean by X?” shows you want to give an accurate response.

Be Honest

Always be truthful in how you represent yourself and your background. Don’t exaggerate or stretch the truth on your resume or during the interview. The FTC will fact check what you say, so stick to what you can back up.

Send a Thank You Note

After the interview, follow up with a thank you email reiterating your interest in the role. Mention something specific you enjoyed discussing and add any relevant information you may have forgotten. Reaffirm why you’re a great fit.Thorough preparation is key for any successful interview. By researching the FTC, practicing responses, dressing professionally and arriving early, you can go into your FTC interview feeling ready. Use these tips to make a great impression and land the job.Let me know if you would like me to modify or expand this article in any way. I’m happy to refine it based on your feedback.
