The United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana is a federal court in the Fifth Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit).
The Western District of Louisiana covers the following parishes: Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula, Claiborne, Concordia, De Soto, East Carroll, Evangeline, Franklin, Grant, Iberia, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, La Salle, Lafayette, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, St. Landry, St. Martin, Tensas, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Webster, West Carroll, and Winn.
The court is divided into five divisions: Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Shreveport. Each division covers specific parishes within the district.
The current chief judge of the Western District of Louisiana is S. Maurice Hicks Jr.
