THE BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR.

The BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR!!! Todd changed our lives! He’s not JUST a lawyer representing us for a case. Todd and his office have become Family. When we entered his office in August of 2022, we entered with such anxiety, uncertainty, and so much stress. Honestly we were very lost. My husband and I felt alone. How could a lawyer who didn’t know us, know our family, know our background represents us, When this could change our lives for the next 5-7years that my husband was facing in Federal jail. By the time our free consultation was over with Todd, we left his office at ease. All our questions were answered and we had a sense of relief.

How to Reach a Real IRS Agent to Discuss Your Tax Debt

Dealing with the IRS can be super stressful, I feel you. Trying to get through to a real person is so frustrating sometimes. But don’t worry, I got you covered. Here’s my advice on how to reach a real live IRS agent to talk about your tax debt and get the help you need.

First things first, you’ll want to call the IRS taxpayer assistance number at 800-829-1040. This is the main customer service line. Call volume is usually highest on Mondays and Tuesdays and around tax deadline time in April, so try to avoid those days if you can.

When you call, listen closely to the recording because it’ll give you a bunch of options to choose from. Press 2 for questions about your personal income taxes. Then press 1 for questions about a form already filed or a payment. Then press 3 for all other questions.

At this point, you might get another recording asking for details about why you’re calling. Just go ahead and pick the option that best fits your reason for calling. For tax debt issues, press 2 for balance due questions or press 3 for payment plan/installment agreement questions.

Okay, now we’re getting closer. You might have to wait on hold for a while, so try to be patient. I know it sucks, but don’t hang up! That’ll just send you back to the end of the queue.

While you’re waiting, make sure to have some key info handy like your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, filing status, and the tax years you need help with. This’ll make the call go faster once you get an agent on the line.

Here are some tips for getting through the phone tree faster:

  • Call early in the day or later in the evening when call volumes are lower.
  • Avoid Mondays and Tuesdays – those are the IRS’ busiest days.
  • Butt-dial the IRS number throughout the day to stay in the queue, even if you’re not actively waiting on hold.
  • If prompted, say you need help with a balance due or payment plan – that prioritizes you over other callers.
  • Press 0 or say “agent” to skip phone tree options and get a human faster.

Once you finally get an IRS agent on the phone, make sure to get their name and employee ID number. This is super important in case you need to reference the conversation later.

Clearly explain your tax debt situation and what kind of help you need. Make sure to get answers to any specific questions you have. And don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and really press them to help you out. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, ya know?

Before you hang up, recap any agreements you made or next steps discussed. Like if they said they’ll send you some paperwork or that you need to submit additional documents, get all those details.

If you need additional help, you can also contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 877-777-4778. This specialized IRS department works as an advocate on your behalf to help resolve issues. They may even be able to get your case assigned to a specific agent to expedite things.
