Headway Capital Reviews: 6 Things the Ratings Do Not Tell You

No star rating tells you what Headway Capital charges, because it publishes no interest rate range, no APR range and no factor rate anywhere. Trustpilot shows 4.2 across 2,267 reviews. BBB rates it A+ and accredited, with a customer review average of 1.44 out of 5 across 9.

Delancey Street

Fig. 02 · The article

Headway Capital is an actual lender that sells a revolving line of credit. The reviews you’ll find are mostly standard, saying little more than that the lender is legitimate. It also holds a real license. What the ratings miss are what most matters when every dime counts: what a draw costs and what you sign. Also overlooked is Headway Capital’s parent company and the company’s regulatory record with the CFPB, as well as the account re-amortization every time you draw.

1. The monthly rate misleads

The APR on your loan depends on the interest rate, how long you pay, and any fees the lender charges. When you draw from a line of credit, you pay interest on only the amount you use. Headway reports a monthly rate of about 3.3%, and it can go higher, but this is not the same as the APR and makes the cost of the loan seem lower than it is. A well known website, “Merchant Maverick”, estimates the loan has an APR range of 40% to 80%. Regulation Z, the rule that applies to truth-in-lending and requires that consumers be given an APR, does not apply to credit for commercial or business purposes. You pay up to a 2% fee every time you draw. It can be a sizable expense, but it is not figured into the monthly rate. That fee does not apply in Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, New Jersey, or Oklahoma.

2. Each draw resets the clock

When you draw from a line of credit you choose a 12, 18 or 24 month term and a weekly or monthly payment schedule. Each time you draw, your outstanding balance is re-amortized and the payments are reset, extending the amount of time over which you pay. There is no prepayment penalty. Also, interest accrues on your current balance, so paying off early lowers the total cost of your loan. If you plan to make only one draw and that fits your budget, no problem. If you plan to draw and pay down, make sure it meets your business model and your budget before signing.

3. Not everyone qualifies

To be considered for a loan you need to have been in business at least a year and have $50,000 in annual revenue. Headway Capital does not list a minimum credit score, but the firm checks your personal and business credit. At application there is a soft pull that does not impact your credit. In underwriting, you will find there is a hard pull. Headway requires a personal guarantee.

4. It is not an MCA

The firm’s homepage pitches its credit as an alternative to a merchant cash advance (MCA). MCAs have fixed factor rates - as opposed to interest rates. Moreover, an MCA is not a loan, despite how similar it seems. A cash advance is the purchase and sale of your future receivables. Headway’s line is structured more like a loan: there is no full payment due in one lump sum, and you pay principal and interest in weekly or monthly installments.

Many small business owners who apply for a line of credit also carry merchant cash advances. If that is your situation, dealing with the cash advance usually becomes the more urgent problem, as daily withdrawals drain the business account faster.

5. Look at the parent

Headway Capital is owned by Enova, which is publicly traded (NYSE: ENVA). Enova also owns the brands CashNetUSA and NetCredit. In 2019, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) required Enova to pay a penalty of $3.2 million for debiting customer bank accounts without permission. In 2023, CFPB fined Enova $15 million for doing the same thing again, breaking the prior order. In both instances the businesses cited were CashNetUSA and NetCredit, and not Headway. CFPB terminated the 2023 order early, on September 2, 2025.

That history still matters, because you give Headway access to your bank account. The withdrawals are not daily, but they are automated. It is the same as any lender that authorizes ACH, which means you are giving permission to debit your business account. Read the authorization that you sign twice and make sure it is not a “blank check.” Check every debit carefully.

6. The guarantee follows you

Headway Capital requires a personal guarantee. This means that if the business falls behind, the lender can sue you personally too. Headway is not covered by the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which applies only to debts that are for personal, family or household purposes. It can get a judgment against you personally and the business.

The federal limit on wage garnishment after a judgment is 25% of your disposable earnings, or the amount above 30 times the minimum wage, whichever is less. If your weekly disposable income is $217.50 or less, it cannot be garnished. If your state law is lower, that rule applies instead.

Before You Take a Loan

Because a line of credit is not an MCA, the tactics used to settle MCAs often do not apply to it. Settlement requires identifying a new strategy, rather than trying to apply what works with an MCA. You will have to do your homework on the lender and be ready to negotiate.

Before you take a loan, find out from the lender what the dollar cost of the draw will be with fees, the exact amount of the payment and how often, whether the guarantee survives closing the business, what a missed payment triggers, and how fast you can get a written payoff number if you decide to leave. If the numbers do not fit, look at a bank line or an equipment loan.
